ISLAMABAD: Islamabad Police spent over Rs 330 million in efforts to control the recent three-day protest by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

According to media reports, authorities sealed 24 strategic locations using more than 800 containers to secure the federal capital. The deployment cost of the containers alone was Rs. 72.8 million, and these containers have been lying for seven days now, adding to the rising costs.

Police reported using 35,000 tear gas shells during the demonstration at a cost of 5,000 150 million for the shells alone. Additionally, the cost of procurement of rubber bullets and 2,500 firearms totaled Rs. 110 million

The total cost of managing the protest does not include the expenses incurred by the authorities in Rawalpindi, which also saw tight security during the protest.

The significant costs have raised concerns about the financial burden of managing political unrest and its long-term impact on public resources.
