Islamabad: Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has announced that a comprehensive package will be introduced soon to reduce the cost of electricity for the people.

Presiding over a meeting on the Power Division in Islamabad on Sunday, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif emphasized that the ongoing reforms in the power sector will enable the government to rid the electricity prices.

He instructed the personnel to remove misconceptions about the government’s solar policy through communication on facts, and confirmed that promoting renewable energy was a priority.

In addition, the Prime Minister called for a rapid process of privatization for the distribution companies and called for a solution to the legal and administrative obstacles that affect the emission of generation companies.

The Prime Minister also directed to form a united energy sector strategy for better harmony between the Power Division, Water Resources Division, and Petroleum Division.

Earlier, it was reported that Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif was expected to announce a reduction of 8 per unit on March 23 after the approval of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

According to sources, the Ministry of Finance and the Power Division found additional steps to further reduce the power rates. A final decision was made before the official announcement.

Consumer bills, which began in May 1, 2025, were expected to be implemented in May. Of the 8 rupees per unit, Rs 4.73 per unit was nominated as permanent adjustment.
