The Sindh Education Department has issued a new code of conduct for teachers in public schools, which outlines the standards of clothing and behavior for maintaining a professional and respected educational environment.

According to the official notification, male teachers are advised to refrain from wearing T -shirts and jeans, while female teachers have been asked to refrain from makeup, jewelry and high heels. However, the department made it clear that no particular dress has been banned, emphasizing that guidelines are consulting, not mandatory.

Key guidelines include the school premises banning the use of Gatka, Mawa, Charia (Butal Nut), cigarettes and other drugs. Teachers have also been instructed not to assign personal work to the students, make sure that their focus is on education only.

During a public debate about the ban on the dress code, the Sindh Education Department issued a statement confirming that the word “ban” was never used in the document. Officials said that guidelines were prepared in consultation with teachers’ associations, legal experts, and members of civil society.

The department emphasized that the code of conduct is aimed at maintaining discipline and professionalism in public schools, which creates an environment for students to learn healthy and respected.
