Islamabad: On Thursday, the Foreign Office of Pakistan welcomed the United States acknowledging the threat posed by the TTP to world peace and security.

“There is no break in the cooperation of Pakistan on counter -terrorism, and it will continue in the future,” Foreign Office spokesman Shafqat Ali Khan said in a weekly news briefing in Islamabad on Thursday.

Regarding the recent imposing US export sanctions against Pakistan’s trade agencies, the spokesman noted that such discriminatory and politically motivated measures are fruitful for the purposes of controlling global exports and hindering legitimate access to technology for socio -economic development.

When asked about a bill introduced in the US House of Representatives about Pakistan, the spokesman said it was the only individual legislature.

However, he said that Pakistan believes that the time and context of this bill is not well with the current positive dynamics of bilateral relations, based on mutual respect, understanding and non-interference in each other’s affairs.

The spokesperson expressed hope that the US Congress will continue to play its role in strengthening relations with Pakistan-US and focusing on bilateral cooperation, which will benefit the two countries. He said that Pakistan is committed to constitutionalism, rule of law, protection of human rights and freedom of expression as it considers democracy a vehicle for development and prosperity.

Mr Khan expressed concern over several raids by Indian authorities at residences belonging to all parties in Jammu and Kashmir illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

“These raids are intended to crush the opposition and scare the locals,” a FO spokesman said.

He called on the Indian authorities to stop these oppressive measures and respect the basic rights and freedom of the Kashmiri people, including their right to self -determination.

The spokesman recently welcomed a consensus on a limited ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine, which forbids attacks on energy infrastructure and ensures secure navigation in the Black Sea.

He praised the active involvement of the US administration and its leadership in obtaining an agreement between Russia and Ukraine. He concluded, “We hope that the new pace created by these preliminary measures will eventually lead to a comprehensive and permanent ceasefire.”
