PTI Power Rally at D Chowk (Live Updates)
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is going to hold a massive protest in Islamabad under the leadership of Imran Khan, the founder of the party and former prime minister.
The purpose of the rally is to pressurize the government to release Khan while protesting at D Chowk despite the government cordoning off Islamabad with security.
PTI has mobilized a large number from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. A convoy under the leadership of Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur left Swabi for Islamabad.
The caravan was expected to reach Islamabad by 11 am where the party would stay at D Chowk, but due to road block or containers, the rally could not reach its destination.
Gandapur on Wednesday promised that the PTI would bring its own private machinery to cross the barriers and reach Islamabad. Meanwhile, Imran Khan’s wife Bushra Bibi will follow the convoys from Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa House, but she will not participate in the protest.
In response to the protests, the federal government in Islamabad has tightened security measures, cordoning off several key roads and blocking access to the Red Zone, which houses key government buildings.
A number of containers in the rest of the city with containers on various major routes including the Srinagar Highway, GT Road, and Express Highway. A virtual wall was erected, restricting access to strategic areas including D Chowk, Islamabad Airport, and A-11 Point. On New Margalla Road.
Rangers along with police and Frontier Constabulary (FC) have been deployed to patrol the area. The federal government also warned against any illegal demonstration and said that no one will be allowed to demonstrate even if it violates certain court orders, promising action against the violators, while Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi told PTI Chairman Barrister Gauhar that the government will take action against him. Due to security concerns, no sit-in or rally will be allowed in Islamabad.
While according to a recent update, 300 PTI protesters have been arrested from Islamabad, including many others from Jhelum and Lahore areas.
