Speaker KP Assembly denied rumors of becoming Chief Minister.
PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Speaker Babar Saleem Swati on Thursday denied rumors of him becoming the provincial chief minister as the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Party and the province are reportedly mulling a reshuffle.
“Reports about my possible elevation to the post of chief minister are based on editorial misinformation,” he said while talking to a private news channel.
Swati added that the party has given the Speaker’s post to a “common worker, whom he respects a lot.”
His comments came amid speculation about changes in the provincial leadership, making it clear that he is focused on his current role and responsibilities within the assembly.
Former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s wife Bushra Bibi has reportedly warned Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur that he will lose his seat if he fails to deliver on the Islamabad march.
On 24 November, thousands of PTI supporters marched from various cities to Islamabad to make a “final appeal” to Khan to “ensure the release of party members and restoration of democracy”.
They managed to reach the federal capital despite disruptions and disruptions in internet and cellular services.
At least six people, including a police officer and three Rangers personnel, lost their lives during the three-day protest, according to officials and hospital sources.
This was the third time the party ended its protest after reaching its desired destination. The party’s top leadership had reportedly expressed concern over the non-participation of supporters in Punjab in meetings scheduled for the Islamabad march.
