Two booked for rare Indus dolphin killing in Dadu

Dadu: In a twist of events, two persons have been booked under the Sindh Wildlife Protection Act 2020 for killing a rare species of Indus dolphin known as the “Queen of the Indus River”.

The carcass of the Indus dolphin, which had strayed into the Dadu Canal, was discovered a few kilometers from the Phaka distributary, also known as Amb Mori.

According to Sindh wildlife conservator Javed Mehr, criminals took the Indus dolphin out of the canal two days ago, took pictures and posted them on social media. The dolphin died as a result of this action as its skin dried out.

After receiving the report, the Sindh Wildlife Department team in Dadu investigated the crime scene, collected evidence and started searching for the dolphin. Tragically, the dead dolphin was discovered near the settlement of Glan Panhor, about 8 km away.

According to the Animal Protection Act, the accused now face charges that can result in a fine of Rs 750,000 and five years in prison. Dadu District and Sessions Court will hear the case in this regard.
