India's Champions Trophy hopes suffered as Bumrah suffered an injury

India’s ICC Champions Trophy campaign has been hampered, with star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah unlikely to feature in the group stage due to a back injury.

After being diagnosed with back inflammation during the fifth Test of the Border-Gaskar Trophy, Bumrah struggled to produce his usual performances, raising concerns about his fitness.

The fast bowler has been directed to report to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru for rehabilitation and continued monitoring.

As a result, Bumrah has been ruled out of the upcoming series against England, as the selectors aim to allow ample recovery time.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is seeking an extension to finalize the Champions Trophy squad, originally scheduled to take place today.

The final roster will be decided closer to the tournament after assessing Bumrah’s health status.

Bumrah, a key asset to India’s bowling attack, is expected to regain fitness by early March.

His possible availability is being closely monitored for India’s final group stage match against New Zealand scheduled for March 2 in Dubai.

Former Australian captain Michael Clarke recently hailed Bumrah as one of the best fast bowlers in all formats, comparing his ability to legends like Glenn McGrath and Curtly Ambrose.

Clarke highlighted Bumrah’s ability to adapt to different situations, making him a standout performer in world cricket.

As India await an assessment of Bumrah’s recovery, the team faces a critical test in adjusting their strategy for the Champions Trophy without their most reliable bowler.
