Rawalpindi: Former First Lady Bushra Bibi was detained after being convicted in the £190 million Al Qadir Trust case.

Bushra Bibi reached Adiala Jail to meet her imprisoned husband as the NAB court was about to pass judgment on the Toshakhana 2 case.

An accountability court sentenced Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan to 14 years in prison in the £190 million Al-Qadir Trust case.

Judge Nasir Javed Rana delivered the verdict in Adiala Jail where accused Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi were present. Bushra Bibi was sentenced to seven years imprisonment.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 10 lakh and Rs 500,000 on Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi respectively. In case of failure to pay the fine, both the persons will face additional imprisonment.

In case of non-payment, Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi will have to serve six months and three months of imprisonment. Bushra Bibi was taken into custody from the courtroom in Rawalpindi.

The accountability court also ordered Al-Qadir University to be taken into official custody. Earlier, the judgment was delivered three times on December 23, January 6 and again on January 13.

Accountability Court judge Nasir Javed Rana had reserved the verdict on December 18 after several hearings in Adiala Jail. It took almost a year for the accountability court to complete the hearing of the case in which the prosecution team and defense counsel completed their arguments.

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has launched an investigation against Imran Khan and his wife and others for allegedly acquiring hundreds of kanals of land in the name of Al-Qadir University Trust, allegedly costing the national exchequer £190 million. Damaged. .

According to the charges, the former prime minister and other accused allegedly adjusted 50 billion rupees – 190 million pounds at the time – that were sent to the government by Britain’s National Crime Agency (NCA).

NAB filed a corruption reference against 7 people including Imran and his wife regarding Al-Qadir University. The PTI chief registered the trust for the Al Qadir University project on 26 December 2019.
