The PTI chairman further said that the procedure laid down in the constitution would be followed for the appointment of the Chief Election Commissioner, adding that it would be completed after the formation of the parliamentary committee.

He said that everyone is standing with Imran Khan, the founder of PTI, who is the symbol of the party.

Earlier, the ECP held a hearing regarding PTI’s intra-party elections.

PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar participated in the hearing chaired by Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja. CEC told the court that the case is pending since April 30, 2024 and PTI has not yet filed a written reply.

On which Barrister Gauhar said that PTI has responded to the notice and will submit the response to the petitions at the next hearing. The ECP adjourned the hearing till February 11, ordering PTI to file its reply by then.

During the ECP hearing, Barrister Gauhar declared that the PTI was the only party to hold intra-party elections, claiming to be the sixth largest political party in the world.

The PTI chief told the court that out of the total 5 petitioners against PTI’s intra-party elections, the petitions were not contested and they would reply to the ECP at the next hearing.

He said that PTI’s symbol is Imran Khan, who has written a letter to the Speaker of the National Assembly for the appointment of a new Chief Election Commissioner.

Meanwhile, PTI’s founding member Akbar S. Babar also addressed the press conference and said that PTI’s accounts should be frozen until the case is decided. He said that the organizational set-up of PTI has no legal status and at present it is ruled by infiltrators who have nothing to do with it.

Akbar S. Babar further alleged that a group of vested interests had taken over the PTI, and the verdict in the £190 million foreign funding case had grabbed many headlines.
