A case was registered against Imran Khan, Bushra Bibi and 45 others over the November 24 protest in Faisalabad.
Faisalabad: As the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest entered its second day, allegations of terrorism against party founder Imran Khan, Bushra Bibi and KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur in several cities of Punjab. Several cases have been registered.
At least 45 people, including Imran Khan, were booked under the Anti-Terrorism Act and other provisions of the Pakistan Penal Code at Faisalabad’s Ghulam Mohammadabad police station.
A police spokesperson said that 35 people have already been arrested for damaging property, assaulting police and other charges.
According to the First Information Report (FIR), the accused PTI workers violated law and order at the instigation of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, who is currently lodged in Adiala Jail for a year.
Meanwhile, a separate case was registered against the former prime minister along with his wife Bushra Bibi, sister Aleema Khan and Ali Amin Gandapur in Taxila.
Former President Arif Alvi, Leader of Opposition in National Assembly Umar Ayub and others have also been made accused in the case filed under 13 provisions including terrorism. In Gujranwala, a separate case of terrorism was registered against 40 named and 100 unknown persons, including party founders and workers.
The development came as police launched a crackdown on PTI activists, arresting 139 in Islamabad. According to reports, around 490 PTI workers have been arrested from various cities across Punjab.
Authorities imposed Section 144 ban on gatherings and closed key access roads including the Srinagar Highway and Khanna Bridge Expressway.
In the light of the protest, the government has also closed the major motorways and GT road leading to Islamabad and the entrances and exits of the city. Rawalpindi Islamabad metro bus service is also suspended and internet and mobile services are also disrupted.
