An Analysis of Age Gap Romance in Pakistani Dramas

Pakistani dramas revolve around family stories and we get to see many angles of scripts revolving around family drama. The main lead cast always plays a huge role in the drama, whether it will be seen by a large audience or not. But the casting is not always the best and sometimes we get to see very funny pairings that don’t make any sense according to the story lines. Wrong casting also takes away the show’s impact, which happens a lot in Pakistan.

The use of age gap is very common in Pakistan. 40 and 50+ men playing lead roles opposite women in their 20s. Such pairings work if the story dictates it or if the actors work hard to sustain themselves but many times the lead actors look ridiculous. Let’s analyze the age gap of Pakistani dramas in 2024:

Danish Taimur and Laiba Khan

Danish Taimur is a capable star and all his dramas get ratings and views despite the lack of content. This year he did a project called Teri Chhaon Mein. The show was average and starred opposite content creator and debutant Laiba Khan. The age gap between the two actors is huge and unfortunately it showed in the drama. They lacked chemistry and seemed awkward as a couple. It was a casting choice that shows Pakistani dramas don’t know how to cast.

Danish Taimur and Komal Mir

Danish Taimur was once again in a casting this year that made no sense even on paper. He shared the screen with Komal Mir in Raah Junoon. Both of them were shown as the same age again and it didn’t look good on screen. Danish is talented and fit but Kamal looks much younger than her. It was once again a pairing that could have been better. Yet another Pakistani drama’s age gap casting gone wrong.

Fahad Mustafa and Hania Aamir

Fahad Mustafa and Hania Aamir broke records in Kabhi Mein Kabhi Tum. They are two stars with a huge age gap and didn’t seem like a good pair on paper. But the work put in by the team made them incredible together. Fahad Mustafa lost weight and styled himself at a young age. Hania, on the other hand, was styled in a mature way and the two of them looked great together. This is a lesson for Pakistani drama makers on how to improve age gap in romantic films.

Faisal Qureshi and Durfashan Saleem

Faisal Qureshi and Durfashan Saleem were competing against each other in the sensational drama Khai. Now that’s what actually makes sense. The two actors were shown to have a huge age gap in the story and thus the casting makes complete sense. Thus you should cast actors with a large age gap when the script actually calls for it and not everything goes according to followers and ideas.

Noman Ejaz and Hareem Farooq

Nauman Ejaz and Hareem Farooq became the most evil pair of Pakistani dramas this year. TT and Masooma got a lot of hate but the actors were praised for such a good portrayal. This is another age gap romance with the right casting. Bismillah was almost two people with a generation gap who married suspiciously. Thus, the age difference between Hareem and Noaman was good because it was in accordance with the demand of the story.

Khushal Khan and Ramsha Khan

Khushal Khan and Ramsha Khan have a slight age difference in real life and both acted opposite each other in Dunyapur. The stars have actually worked on their looks in the drama and they look incredible. It’s a good choice by the makers when we have a leading lady who is a few years older than the leading man. Otherwise we keep getting 50 year old women with 20 year old women. Ramsha and Khushal have been great together on screen.

Kabra Khan and Ali Raza

Kabra Khan and Ali Raza appeared together in the film Noor Jaan. This is another good change in the industry where a youngster was cast with the leading lady. It’s also a testament to how a strong story and good performances overcome such concerns. When Noor Jahan aired, fans were initially not too happy with the casting but later started loving the couple.

Usman Mukhtar and Sahar Khan

According to the story, there should have been an age difference between this pair of Jaffa, but Usman was not looking good with Sehar. The pairing ended as Usman did not put much effort into his appearance on the show. Sehar looked too young in comparison to her and thus should not be romanced by age difference.

Daniyal Afzal Khan and Aina Asif

An Analysis of Age Gap Romance in Pakistani Dramas

The casting in Wow Zaidi Di is nothing short of criminal. Aina Asif is a good actress but she is still a minor and she is already playing such mature roles for no reason. An older girl’s role would have been much better. Aina is quite short and she did not look good with Daniyal Afzal Khan. Pakistani dramas require better casting skills when working with child actors.

Ahad Raza Mir and Dinar Mubeen

An Analysis of Age Gap Romance in Pakistani Dramas

Ahad Raza Mir and Dinar Mubeen are working together in Love Meem. The story calls for an age gap between the leads and thus the casting is fine. However, so far we have had a lot of cousin/sibling from the lead pair and it might get better in the upcoming episodes.

Pakistani dramas for the most part need to do better while casting leads in age gap romances and casting big age gap actors when the script doesn’t call for it and the gap is obvious. Shouldn’t!
