ISLAMABAD: Former Federal Minister Shehryar Afridi was granted interim bail on Tuesday in 5 separate cases related to the D Chowk protest.
A review hearing on Afridi’s bail application was held under the chairmanship of Islamabad’s Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) judge Abul Hasnat Zulqarnain.
Afridi appeared in the court along with his legal team which included lawyers Sardar Masroof and Amna Ali. During the hearing, Afridi’s lawyer Sardar Masroof requested the court to extend the interim bail of Afridi and other co-accused till February. Masroff argued that the extension was necessary for ongoing proceedings.
After the application, the ATC judge extended Afridi’s interim bail till February 15 and allowed him to leave after appearing in court. This case is related to the protests in D Chowk Islamabad due to which legal action was taken against the accused including Afridi.
The court’s decision came after reviewing arguments presented by the defense, and Afridi will return to court next month for further proceedings in five cases related to the protests.
The development marks a turning point in the ongoing legal battle surrounding the political figure, after the court extended bail, providing Afridi with temporary relief from the ongoing legal battle.
