Beijing: A Chinese military spokesman called on the Philippines on Friday to respect its promise and withdraw the US typhoon missile system from its area as soon as possible.
Zhang Xiaoging, a spokesman for the Ministry of National Defense, made the comment when asked to comment on the reports, which shows that the US typhoon missile system is deployed to the Philippines area.
The United States installed a typhoon missile system in the northern Philippines in April 2024 as part of a joint US Philippines military exercises. The Philippines promised that the deployment would be “temporary”, and that the system would be withdrawn after the end of military exercises.
Zhang said China has repeatedly stated its strong opposition to the US deployment of intermediate range missiles in the Philippines.
Recognizing the typhoon is a strategic, aggressive weapon, Zhang said that the Philippines has repeatedly considered its commitment and attracted to the United States in introducing the system, adding that not only do others do so. The mercy of the region will include its security and national defense, but the geographical political confrontation and arms race in the region are also at risk.
