NEW YORK: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has arrived in New York to represent Pakistan at a high -level meeting of the UN Security Council (UNSC) on global governance.
The meeting, which began on Tuesday, has been summoned by China for February 2025 under the Security Council’s rotating presidency.
With the topic of “implementing multilateral: reform and improving global governance”, the meeting will be chaired by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and focus on tackling the challenges of modern global discipline. Pakistan has welcomed the move, recognizing the need for better cooperation to tackle international security and governance issues.
During his address, Ishaq Dar will confirm Pakistan’s commitment to multi -faceted and emphasize the central role of the United Nations in global peace, security and sustainable development. Highlighting the importance of dialogue, participation and international cooperation in global decision-making, he will also outline Pakistan’s priorities as a non-permanent member of the Security Council for the period of 2025-2026.
At the UNSC meeting, the DAR is expected to hold bilateral meetings with his foreign counterparts and senior UN officials to discuss regional and international issues of mutual concern. Will

As the president of China, the current UNSC, the member states have preferred to confirm the multilateralism and commitment to improve the global governance structure. The Chinese Permanent Representative of the United Nations, Fu Kong, recently said that the world is witnessing an extraordinary increase in conflicts, making reforms in global governance institutions more important than ever.
Fu noted, “In the Security Council, solidarity and cooperation are often replaced by division and confrontation,” he said, adding that the UNCC should be more effective in resolving global security crises.
Since Pakistan is preparing for its 2025-2026 era related to UNSC, the participation of the DAR at this key meeting is ready to contribute to the collective efforts for global peace, security and development. Reflects
