Darren Gough returns as Lahore Qalandars head coach for PSL 10

Lahore Qalandars have named former England fast bowler Darren Gough as their head coach for the upcoming 10th edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), according to an announcement made in Lahore on Wednesday.

At the age of 54, Gough re-enters the Qalandars set-up after guiding the team to the final of last year’s Global Super League.

His appointment brings a wealth of international cricket knowledge to Pakistan’s flagship T20 tournament.

The former Yorkshire cricketer, best known for his illustrious career from 1994 to 2006, was England’s highest wicket-taker in one-day internationals.

After retirement, Gough moved into coaching and management roles, including as England’s bowling consultant in 2020 and Yorkshire’s managing director of cricket.

“The PSL is a fantastic league, and the Qalandars have immense potential,” Gough said in a statement. “We are determined to deliver a strong performance with the support of our enthusiastic fans.”

Team director Samin Rana emphasized Gough’s familiarity with the franchise. “His success with the team during the Global Super League proved his ability to fit our vision and culture,” remarked Rana.

Gough’s early appointment provides ample time to strategize and build a squad for the 2025 PSL season, where Lahore Qalandars will compete for the championship against five other teams in the Pakistan Premier Cricket League.
