Ingredients
- For cookies:
- 1 cup (225 grams) unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup (200 grams) granulated sugar
- 1 large egg

Instructions
- Prepare the dough:
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy (about 2-3 minutes).
- Beat in the eggs and vanilla extract until well combined.
- Combine the dry ingredients:
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until a soft dough forms.
- Chill the dough:
- Divide the dough in half and shape each into a disk. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes (or up to 2 hours).
- Preheat and prepare:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Shape the cookies:
- Roll out the chilled dough on a lightly floured surface to about ¼-inch (6 mm) thickness.
- Use holiday-themed cookie cutters to cut out shapes like stars, trees or snowflakes. Place them on the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 1 inch apart.
- Cook:
- Bake in the preheated oven for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
- Let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Decorate:
- Once cooled, decorate cookies with icing, sprinkles, or other toppings as desired. Allow the garnish to set before serving or storing.
