The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the ODI and Test Teams of the Year for 2024, with three Pakistani players in the ODI line-up.

The best ODI team of the year includes three players from Afghanistan. West Indiesand four from Sri Lanka, but remarkably, none of the Indian players made the squad.

Pat Cummins has been named the captain of the Test team of the year. Four players from England and three from India are included in the Test XI, but no Pakistani player has been selected.

The team includes notable names like Yashvi Jaiswal, Ben Duckett, Kane Williamson, Joe Root, Harry Brook, Kosal Mendes, Jamie Smith, Ravindra Jadeja, Pete Cummins, Matt Henry, and Jasprit Bumrah.

Pakistan’s Saeem Ayub, Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf have been selected for the best ODI team of the year.

Other players in the ODI line-up include Kosal Mendes, Charith Asalanka, Sherfin Rutherford, Azmatullah Omarzai, Venindu Hasringa, and AM Ghazanfar. Charith Asalanka of Sri Lanka has been appointed as the captain of the ODI team.

The ICC Men’s Team of the Year reflects a strong presence from Asia. Young Pakistani batsman Saim Ayub Earned a place in the ODI XI as an opener after a stellar performance throughout the year.

At the age of just 22, he scored 515 runs in 9 matches, including a magnificent century against Zimbabwe and two centuries against South Africa.

The announcement highlights the emerging talent in Pakistan and the dominance of Asian players in the international cricket scene.
