In Kurram, warring tribes agree to a ceasefire after deadly clashes.
Kurram: A ceasefire was agreed on Sunday between the warring tribes to ease tensions in Kurram.
According to the details, the provincial government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has also decided to form a high-powered commission to resolve land disputes in the region, while 18 more people were killed in fresh clashes yesterday.
The violence escalated after Thursday’s deadly attack, where a convoy of about 200 vehicles was fired upon in Baghan town, killing at least 64 people.
Adviser to KP Chief Minister on Information Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif today announced that the tribes have agreed to a seven-day ceasefire. The two tribes also pledged to return the bodies of the killed and prisoners.
A government delegation met Shia tribal leaders yesterday and Sunni tribal leaders today before returning to Peshawar. Barrister Saif, speaking to foreign media, described the talks as “positive developments in engagement with stakeholders”.
