Introducing e-taxi service to combat unemployment in Punjab

Punjab introduces e-taxi service to combat smog crisis

LAHORE: In an effort to combat air pollution and provide employment opportunities to the unemployed, the Punjabi government has launched a new project.

The strategy calls for the launch of an e-taxi service, which will offer electric cars at competitive prices to online taxi drivers. The program seeks to reduce emissions by providing cash incentives to drivers.

Details of the plan were provided by provincial transport minister Bilal Akbar Khan, who revealed that a large proportion of online taxis will be replaced by electric cars (EVs). Drivers will be able to purchase these EVs with either down payment or easy installment options, making participation easier.

Wazir Khan stressed that switching to electric taxis would benefit drivers financially apart from reducing harmful emissions. Studies show that drivers who switch to electric vehicles can save up to 40% on gasoline costs.

The initiative was launched to address the growing pollution in metropolitan areas, especially Lahore, and to meet the growing demand for online taxi services in Punjab.

A cleaner environment, cheaper fuel prices, and better economic opportunities for drivers are some of the benefits of switching to electric taxis. Moreover, it is expected that this program will provide a large number of employment opportunities for the unemployed.
