Renewal violence has raised concerns about a wider regional dispute. Expressing solidarity with the Palestinians, the Yemeni Houthi movement claimed responsibility for the missile attacks targeting Israel, which further increased tensions. Meanwhile, Israeli warplanes targeted targets in southern and eastern Lebanon, raising concerns about the possible opening of a new front.
Within Israel, domestic unrest is increasing. Thousands of protesters gathered in Jerusalem, demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and criticizing his government for taking over. The clashes between protesters and police intensified, and Israeli society indicates deep divisions.
Human rights organizations have condemned Israel’s new military campaign, calling it a form of collective punishment and a violation of international law. “This is the rule of the jungle,” said a spokesman for the Palestinian Center for Human Rights. “What is the world waiting for? Where are the shared values?”
Since Gaza rallies with another wave of violence, a new ceasefire and humanitarian relief are demanded. The international community is widely silent, many Palestinians say they have been abandoned, forcing them to dig the debris with their bare hands in search of survivors.
