Karachi: The fire that has been burning in Korangi Creek for seven days is out of control, the authorities have not taken any decisive steps to control it. The district administration has sealed the area where the fire is underway, though the firefighting efforts have been minimal, no active operations are currently underway.

The fire started on March 29 after digging 1,200 feet deep bore, which has raised concerns about the type of fire fueling gas and volume. Sand and water samples have been collected for analysis to determine the type of gas. In the coming days, with the decision to take further action, officials are taking cautious approach.

Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) is overseeing the situation in collaboration with the fire brigade. Chief Fire Officer Humayun Ahmed mentioned that although the severity of the fire has not changed, he is in close harmony with the PPL. It is believed that the damage to the underground plates during the drilling has been mobilized, including potential gas with methane or biogas.

Ahmed said, “This is a rare event for Karachi. Although the fire is not considered difficult, it can pose more risks. Authorities are focusing on securing the area and preventing further damage. Despite the concerns, there is no danger to nearby refineries, and there is no danger to the forest, and there is no danger of protecting the forest.

Experts suggest that the safest approach is to allow the fire naturally to be burned, as extinguishing efforts can result in toxic gas formation by risking residential areas. If the gas reserves are small, the fire is expected to end in a few days. However, if the reserves are sufficient, additional steps will be taken to secure the area.

SUI Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has confirmed that its installations are not near the fire -hit area. Meanwhile, TPL Properties Limited has confirmed that after exposing the pockets of fire biogyanic methane, a test for the search for water near Korangi Creek has caused a fire.

When the situation continues, authorities monitor the fire, monitor the fire, and collect samples to better evaluate the risks and scale of gas reserves.
