Madhubala the elephant was shifted to the Safari Park.
KARACHI: Port City Zoo’s only elephant, Madhubala, now 16 years old, has been shifted to a safari park, Four Paws (an international animal welfare organization) announced on Tuesday.
The transfer of the last surviving lone elephant finally took place, and Madhubala now joins two other elephants, Sonia and Mallika, after almost fifteen years at the safari park.
Earlier, Four Paws had announced that Madhubala’s container entry and exit training had been successfully completed. Today the car carrying the elephant was picked up by Karne.
Basic support was provided for better and safer migration procedures during elephant transport, including briefings on clearing roads.
This means that all three elephants will now live in the safari park. As pointed out, Madhubala is one of the four African elephants treated in 2022 by Four Paws’ eight-member international team in Karachi.
Four Claws has a compelling vision – the migration of elephants who need it. It has been able to move Kawan from Islamabad to Cambodia in 2020, most famously referred to as “the world’s loneliest elephant”.
Madhubala Rescue marks another success for the organization and another step in the right direction towards the welfare of this great creature.
