Martin Guptill quits international cricket.

Martin Guptill, the main player of the New Zealand cricket team, has announced his retirement from international cricket.

According to international media, Kiwi team’s aggressive opener Martin Guptill on Thursday announced his retirement from international cricket, ending his decades-long career.

Martin Guptill surprised his colleagues and fans by suddenly announcing his retirement on Wednesday as he became emotional and teary-eyed at the announcement.

Martin Guptill was considered to be one of the best players in the T20 format, apart from this he also showed his skills in ODIs and Tests.

Announcing his retirement, he said ‘It was always my dream to play for New Zealand as a youngster, I feel incredibly lucky and proud to have played 367 games for my country’.

Guptill said he would like to say a huge thank you to all his teammates and coaching staff, especially Mark O’Donnell who has coached me from Under-19 level and has been a source of ongoing support and wisdom throughout my career.

A special thank you must also go to my manager Leanne McGoldrick – all the work that goes on behind the scenes never goes unnoticed and I will always be grateful for your support.

It should be noted that the 38-year-old cricketer last represented New Zealand in October 2022, Martin Guptill played more than 350 international matches in care.

Guptill made his debut against the West Indies in 2009 and has represented New Zealand in 47 Tests, 198 One Day Internationals and 122 T20 Internationals.

Martin is New Zealand’s highest run-scorer in T20Is with 3531 runs in 122 matches at a strike rate of 135.70.

In ODIs, Guptill is also highly regarded for his consistency and skill. The most notable innings was his brilliant knock of 237 runs against West Indies in 2015.

Apart from his skills in ODI and T20, Guptill has also played a prominent role in Test cricket. He has scored 2586 runs in 47 matches with the help of three centuries.
