Users around the world are reporting problems accessing OpenAI’s popular AI chatbot, ChatGPT.
The outage, which began on January 23, 2025, created significant disruptions, preventing users from initiating conversations or accessing their chat history.
On reloading the page, users get a “bad request” error. Open AI has not yet acknowledged the outage, but Downdetector has recorded a significant increase in outage reports, with more than 1,000 complaints at the time of publication.
The outage appears to be global, affecting users in different regions. ChatGPT, with 300 million active users in 2024, accounts for more than 60 percent of the AI tools market.
Lack of access to the platform is causing inconvenience to many organizations and users who rely on its services.
OpenAI recently updated its status to “Identified” amid multiple reports of global outages.
