Peshawar: On Monday, Pakistan and Afghanistan signed an agreement to reopen the Tarakham trade route for ceasefire and all kinds of movements.

This progress was made during a Pak-Afghan Jirga organized to tackle the border tension in the Khyber Terrchham crossing.

A member of the Pakistani Jirga told the media that the two sides have agreed to stop hostiles and to restore trade and cross the major border.

As part of the agreement, Joint Jarga decided to temporarily suspend the controversial construction by Afghan forces. The Afghan delegation has requested its officials to consult on the matter till this evening.

A final decision on controversial construction will be taken during this session, while trade activities will resume in the crossing during this session. The date of the next meeting will be decided through mutual consultation.

In addition, officials of the Frontier Corps (FC) and Afghan officials are ready to meet today. After their debates, the Turkham is expected to reopen the trade route.

The border crossing was closed on February 21 after Afghan forces started construction inside the Pakistani territory.
