ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek -e -Insaf (PTI) -backed MNA Junaid Akbar Khan, who represented the Sunni Unity Council (SIC), was elected chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on Friday.

After the February 2024 elections, the election of the PAC chairman was delayed for more than a year due to political differences between the PTI and the government.

An emergency meeting of the PAC took place when the PTI -backed SIC presented a panel of candidates at the government’s request. The name of Junaid Akbar Khan, which was suggested by Tariq Fazal Chaudhry of the Pakistan Muslim League -Nawaz (PMLN), did not face any opposition, which resulted in his unanimous election.

Junaid Akbar Khan is a member of the National Assembly three times, who received 113,513 votes as an independent PTI-backed PTI candidate from NA-9 Malakand in the 2024 general election. He defeated Syed Ahmad Ali Shah of the PPP, who got 40740 votes.
