ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehreek -e -Insaf (PTI) has accused the government of claiming that former Prime Minister Imran Khan was kept in isolation in Adiala Jail, and claims that he has been placed in the cell of death under severe restrictions.
During a press conference, PTI’s central information secretary, Sheikh Waqas, said Imran Khan had been refused to access the visitors, including political allies and members of the family, in violation of legal rights. He alleged that six persons were allowed to meet Khan despite court orders, authorities refused to comply.
“The orders of the courts are being ignored. Even Imran Khan’s wife has been denied meetings twice, and no explanation is being given. He added that PTI has filed a contempt of court petition, but even after legal intervention, access to Khan is blocked. He highlighted that the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was also refused to meet the former Prime Minister.
Waqas expressed concern over Imran Khan’s ability to consult his lawyers during numerous legal battles, saying he was not allowed to sign the Power of Attorney Papers. He also raised the alarm for the jail authorities’ refusal to allow Khan’s medical advice to his personal doctor, which gave rise to fear of health.
In addition to these restrictions, PTI leaders revealed that books and newspapers were being stopped from Khan, and they were separated from external communication.
Sheikh Waqas also criticized the federal government’s Ramadan package, and confronted it with the former PTI’s EHSAAS program. He claimed that while the PTI government was RS. 15,000 per family, the current administration only RS. 5000 despite the economic difficulties of citizens.
Calling the government’s actions as a clear misuse of power, Waqas has warned that such oppressive measures will not break Imran Khan’s resolve and has expressed his commitment that the PTI will continue its struggle against him, which he has declared a political victim.
