Kremlin: Russia said on Tuesday that it was willing to make a new agreement on the safety of the Black Sea. This is a potential step towards a ceasefire with Ukraine – but only if the United States ordered President Wolodium Zillski to respect it.
Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that only such order would be assured that Russia was needed.
In February 2022, Russia sent thousands of troops to Ukraine after sending thousands of troops to the Black Sea to ensure the safety of merchant shipping in 2023.
Lavrov said in television comments, “We will need clear guarantees. And given the tragic experience of the contracts with Kiev only, the guarantees can only be the result of Zilnsky and his team’s order to do one thing and not the other.”
“And I feel that our US partners have received this signal. They understand that only Washington can achieve positive results in preventing terrorist attacks, preventing the shelling of civilian infrastructure, not related to the energy infrastructure military industrial complex.”
Russia has often accused Ukraine of “terrorist” actions, and Kiev has often used similar language in response to Russian attacks, which has killed thousands of civilians in Ukraine during the three -year war.
Lavrov’s comments have indicated that Russia will demand to further tighten US pressure on Zilnski, before it agrees with the maritime fire, which Washington says will be an important step towards a more comprehensive war.
Zilnsky and Trump had a devastating meeting in the White House last month, and Kiev and his European allies feared that Trump could seal an agreement with Russian President Vladimir Putin, who presents Russian demands and offends their security.
The maritime fire will be the successor of the first agreement of the Black Sea, which allowed Ukraine to safely export about 33 33 million metric tons of grain despite the war.
Moscow said in 2023, saying that its own food and fertilizer exports faced serious problems due to Western sanctions affecting payments, logistics and insurance. Kiev had previously accused Russia of disrupting the move.
Lavrov said the grain and fertilizer market need to be “forecast”. He said that Russia cannot take Zilnski on its word, Zilnsky’s charge is often in Putin.
Lavrov added that the move was a priority for talks between US and Russian officials in Saudi Arabia on Monday.
The Kremlin said earlier today that both Russia and the United States are analyzing the results of the talks, but details will not be made public.
Ukraine’s national broadcaster Suspeline, citing a source, said that Ukraine and US officials will meet in the Saudi capital Riyadh today.
When Trump and Putin spoke last week, the Russian leader refused to propose a 30 -day ceasefire in Ukraine by the US president, but he agreed on an important thing about attacking Ukraine Energy Infrastructure.
Ukraine says it is ready to join a limited energy ceasefire if it is properly document.
