ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court has adjourned the hearing of the petition filed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Sher Afzal Marwat against the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on an adjournment request by his legal counsel. .
During the proceedings, Marwat’s lawyer told the court that he had received the hearing notice late last night, to which Justice Jamal Mandukhel remarked, “We are giving you time. Be prepared for the next hearing. However, the court did not set a new date for the hearing.
The petition, originally scheduled for hearing after recess, was ordered by the constitution bench on December 12. It calls for a judicial inquiry into the alleged election rigging and the suspension of all relevant government-making activities at both the federal and provincial levels pending the findings of the judicial commission.
PTI’s legal team is of the view that the alleged denial of proportionate seats to a political party with elected representatives in the National and Provincial Assemblies is a direct violation of Article 51 and Article 106 of the Constitution.
The indefinite postponement did not resolve the issue of electoral fraud, adding to the ongoing legal and political uncertainty in the country.
