Social media influencer Rajab Butt has been convicted for illegally keeping a tiger cub, following a complaint filed by a wildlife officer in Lahore.
Butt pleaded guilty to violating wildlife laws by keeping the cub without proper permission.
Last month, a raid by the Punjab Wildlife Department and the local police led to Butt’s arrest at his residence.
An illegal firearm was also recovered from his possession during the operation.
Authorities were prompted to take action after a video surfaced showing Butte receiving a tiger cub as a wedding gift, raising concerns about illegal wildlife poaching.
The court sentenced Butt to one year of community service under the supervision of a probation officer.
As part of the sentence, he is required to create monthly vlogs focusing on animal rights, which must be approved by a probation officer before uploading.
The aim of these vlogs is to promote awareness about wildlife conservation.
Additionally, the wildlife department has been directed to provide educational materials on animal conservation to Butt.
The court also mandated that Butt comply with all hearings and directions of the probation officer, warning that non-compliance May result in further legal action.
In a statement, Rajab Butt expressed remorse for his actions, admitting to lack of awareness about wildlife laws.
“I regret setting one up. wrong For example and now I will use my platform to promote positive messages about the rights of wild animals,” he said.
