Washington: US President Donald Trump said he had “extremely fruitful” on Friday, with Canada’s new Prime Minister Mark Carney, tension at prices and Trump’s desire to join his northern neighbor, for the first time on Friday.
Trump added that the two immediately had Canada’s April 28 general election. Later, a meeting was planned in which Carney – who took power two weeks ago – has set up the center of his campaign with the US president.
“I just finished talking to Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. It was a very fruitful call, we agree on a lot of things,” Trump said on his truth social network.
Trump said he would “meet in Canada’s upcoming elections to work on the elements of politics, business and all other factors. Later, he would meet, which would be great for both the United States and Canada.”
Generally, a new Canadian leader makes a phone call with the US president, but it was the first contact between Trump and Carney, since Canada took oath on March 14.
Carney’s office said the couple had a “very constructive conversation” and that they were willing to launch a “comprehensive negotiations on a new economic and security relations” immediately.
However, he added that Carney told Trump that his government would impose revenge rates on US goods from April 2, when US is ready to clear the levies.
“We are not going back, we are going to respond with force,” Carney said at a press conference in the afternoon.
He added, “What is clear is that relations between Canada and the United States have changed. And we are not the ones that have changed,” he said, adding that Canada “needs to look to Europe to strengthen relations with reliable partners.”
“In the coming weeks, months and years, we must re -imagine our economy.”
The recent rhetoric between Washington and Ottawa was still a dramatic change of Trump’s shining post, which is a NATO ally and a long -standing economic partner.
The US president has repeatedly insisted in Canada to become anger to become the 51st US state and slap the country by slapping or threatening or threatening prices.
His post on Friday was noteworthy for his diplomacy, as Trump officially gave Carney the title of his prime minister and did not give any reference to his annexation campaign.
On the contrary, Trump often refers to Carney’s predecessor Justin Trudeau, with whom he had a long -standing enmity, as a “governor”, in reference to his demands to join the United States.
‘Not just cards’
The new Prime Minister of Canada – who is in a rigorous election race to stay – was elected by the Canadian Central Liberal Party to replace Trudeau, but never faced the country’s constituencies.
Just a day before the call, Carney said he would not participate in trade talks with Washington unless the President showed “respect” to Canada, especially by eliminating its repeated risks.
US Vice President JD Venus retained a joint stance on Friday, and reiterated Trump’s past comments that Canadian people “don’t just have cards”.
“There is no way that Canada can win a trade war with the United States,” he said during a visit to Greenland.
Trump’s 25 % levy on the import of vehicles to the United States will be implemented next week, and it can prove destructive to the Canadian auto industry, which estimates 500,000 jobs.
The 78 -year -old Republican is ready to impose mutual taxes on all countries that have imposed US exports, and Canada is also in the firing line for those people.
