The UK Air Safety Committee will meet on Thursday, March 20, to discuss the possibility of a five -year ban on Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) and other Pakistani carriers. The committee will review the status of Pakistani airlines, which has been forbidden from working in the UK and Europe since July 2020, which has raised serious concerns about aviation safety in Pakistan after the fake pilot license scandal.

Sources suggest that Pakistan’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) officials are hopeful for the positive results of today’s meeting. A CAA official remarked, “With the recent rehabilitation of flights to Europe, we hope that the UK will follow a trial and rehabilitation for Pakistani airlines.”

There was a direct response to issues related to the ban, the licensing and certification of both European and British regulators. The ban has had a profound impact on Pakistan’s aviation sector, making direct flight services limited to the UK and Europe.

If the committee decides to lift the ban, Pakistani airlines can soon be allowed to resume flights to British airports, which can identify a significant rehabilitation for the country’s aviation industry.
