Perth: Pakistan cricket legend Wasim Akram was harassed by a fan during the recently concluded first Test match between India and Australia at Optus Stadium in Perth, Australia.
According to The Daily MailThe former captain, who is currently in Australia as a commentator for an Indian broadcaster, was abused by a fan on the third day of the match.
Akram was leaving the venue trying to hail a taxi when a fan approached him, who took Akram’s autograph before the match. The clash visibly upset Wasim Akram.
The security personnel quickly intervened and took control of the situation and the fan was immediately removed from the spot. While the motive behind the harassment remains unclear, authorities have confirmed that the abuse was not racially motivated.
In response, Cricket Australia has promised to increase security in the remaining matches to prevent similar incidents. Officials have also allowed spectators to board vehicles directly from inside the stadium to ensure their safety. They were also given permission to take cars inside the venue.
