Rawalpindi: The recent and sudden postponement of Imran Khan for the founding chairman and former prime minister for Pakistan Tahrik Justice (PTI) has raised concerns from his legal team regarding his health and safety.
The hearing, which was scheduled for February 17 and 19, was unexpectedly reset without explanation.
The hearing of the Toshakhani II case, which was previously appointed today, was pushed on February 27. Similarly, the hearing of the GHQ attack case, which was originally appointed on February 15, was postponed on February 26.
PTI lawyer Faisal Chaudhry expressed his concerns and emphasized the extraordinary nature of the postponement and the growing anxiety of the health of both Imran Khan and his wife, Bashara Babi.
Chaudhry remembered former examples of Imran Khan’s isolation and inhumane treatment during such periods of ban, which raised alarms about his current welfare.
“I am skeptical of the sudden postponement of the hearing. Chaudhry said, I am deeply concerned about the health and safety of Imran Khan and Bashara Babi. He further demanded that immediate meetings with the couple be arranged, which could confirm their lawyers and members of the family about their welfare and inform the public about their condition.
Lawyer Khalid Yousuf also reported the receipt of a phone from the court staff, stating that the hearing of the II case was adjourned till February 27, without any action.
The long delay in the hearing, which now covers a period of 10 days, has raised questions about these sudden changes and justice. Legal community and PTI supporters are demanding transparency and immediate access to detained leaders to ensure their safety during this uncertainty.
