- The United States refused to enter Pakistan’s ambassador to Turkmenistan, who arrived in Los Angeles for a private visit.
Islamabad: On Tuesday, the Foreign Office confirmed that the diplomat was on a private visit when it was stopped by US immigration officials, saying that the investigation was underway.
A Foreign Office spokesman said on Tuesday that the matter was under investigation, he said, “The Pakistani diplomat was traveling for personal reasons, and the Foreign Ministry is considering the matter.”
Diplomatic sources confirmed that the United States had denied entry into Pakistan’s ambassador to Turkmenistan and deported it upon arrival in Los Angeles.
The senior diplomat, who had a valid US visa, was allegedly traveling for a personal visit when immigration officials stopped it and ordered him to return to the last port.
A senior Foreign Ministry official in Islamabad confirmed the deportation of Wagen, saying the issue was caused by a “immigration objection”. Diplomatic sources suggest that the US immigration system flagged its registration on “controversial visa references”, but specific details are unclear.
Other sources presented by local media suggested that the denial of admission could be related to cases filed during the previous period of the envoy in the United States.
Wagan, an experienced diplomat, served as Deputy Consul General in Los Angeles and Ambassador of Oman in various key positions. His sudden deportation has forced the Pakistani Foreign Ministry to launch an investigation into the incident.
Ambassador Wagan is expected to be called back to Islamabad for clarification.
