Islamabad: Federal Information Minister Ataullah Tarar on Tuesday revealed that the salaries of the National Broadcast Pakistan Television (PTV) have been delayed due to considerable payments for the ICC Champions Trophy broadcasting rights.
During a briefing in the National Assembly’s Information Committee, Tarar justified the move, saying that the government preferred cricket access to the people, especially in remote areas where PTV’s Network Network is unit. Is the broadcast option.
“Our goal was to make sure that every citizen, even in villages and remote areas, could see the ICC Champions Trophy,” he said.
“PTV’s antenna broadcasts allow people to enjoy these matches without access to the Internet or cable.”
The minister acknowledged the response caused by a 21 -day salary delay, and confronted it with private channels, where such months are delayed.
He also criticized private media owners for failing to pay employees in a timely manner despite income from the property such as immovable property.
Tarar elaborated on the ongoing reforms within PTV, including efforts to smooth its manpower and improve financial management.
He highlighted the elimination of 12 retired retired retirees that pulls excessive salaries and said that the degree of employees will be completed by January 31.
He said, “Earlier, PTV worked on a ‘never -going” policy, where retired staff was recovered at high salaries.
“Such disqualification caused significant financial tensions, but we are taking correctional measures.”
The minister also discussed plans to increase PTV’s income by bringing private sector anchors and encouraging advertising income.
He said that especially PTV Sports has seen an increase in income under the government’s new strategy.
The committee also considered the proposed amendment to PEMRA’s rules, including setting up a censor board for dramas and advertisements broadcast on entertainment channels.
Convener Senator Sahar Kamran proposed strict surveillance to ensure family -friendly content.
A sub -committee was formed to consult stakeholders in the television industry.
Tarhar expressed hope of the role of PTV in hosting international events, emphasizing the organization’s preparations for the ICC Champions Trophy and other sports projects.
He revealed plans to include cricket legends such as Shaib Akhtar and Shoaib Malik in the PTV comment panel to enhance the audience’s involvement.
“Our aim is to strengthen the profile of PTV Sports and provide high -ranking coverage to viewers across Pakistan,” he said.
The Minister also highlighted the wider improvements in the state media institutions, including eliminating ghost employees in Radio Pakistan and smooth the pension system.
Despite the challenges, Tarhar maintained that the government’s focus on the acquisition of ICC rights is a step towards ensuring widespread access to sports.
“For the first time in the years, major sports events are being done in Pakistan,” he said.
“The move will help unite the nation and promote cricket in every corner of the country.”
ICC Champions Trophy 2025 tickets are now on sale
The ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025 tickets in Pakistan with India matches in the United Arab Emirates have gone on the sale that begins today.
