Lahore: A law reform committee has been constituted to review and amend the outdated criminal laws to meet contemporary legal challenges.
According to a notification issued by the Interior Department on Tuesday, the committee will draft key rules amendment, which includes the criminal procedure code (CRPC) 1898, Pakistan Code of Code (PPC) 1860, and The Kanon Shahadat Order is included 1984.
In addition, it will work on the draft of the National Security Act to address security concerns.
The amendment is to maintain public discipline, with the implementation of crime, the effectiveness of law enforcement, and the protection of women and children.
The Committee will also review the laws of anti -terrorism, cybercrime, and cybersecurity, ensuring that they are compatible with modern scientific techniques and modern legal requirements.
Dig Kamran Adil will be headed by the Law Reform Committee. Other members include Deputy Director Law Department M. Younus, Additional Advocate General Punjab Hassan Khalid, and representatives of the office of the Prosecutor General Punjab. The committee has been instructed to submit its recommendations to the Interior Department within three months.
Earlier in December 2024, under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, the Punjab Cabinet approved an important reforms and plans to improve governance, agriculture and social welfare across the province.
Important approval includes the Punjab Enforcement and Regulatory Authority Rules 2024 in the formal establishment of the Punjab Enforcement and Regulatory Authority.
The Cabinet also approved a delegation of hearing powers to Assistant Commissioners for the Punjab Environment and Regulatory Authority.
