Imad Wasim Reveals His Role in Pakistan Team

Pakistan’s all-rounder Imad Wasim has shed light on his role within the national cricket team as they gear up for the T20 World Cup in England. The tournament opener against Jos Buttler’s formidable side was washed out due to heavy rain, leaving the two teams to face off in the second T20I at Edgbaston on May 25.

Versatility and Adaptability

Imad Wasim revealed that he does not have a fixed role assigned within the squad, highlighting the management’s strategy of giving him a versatile role. This flexibility allows him to adapt based on the team’s needs at any given moment. Speaking to the media, Wasim emphasized his preparation with both the new and old ball, readying himself for any situation the game might present.

“If you talk about bowling, then I’m preparing with the new as well as the old ball because we have many bowlers who excel with the new ball so I may be needed in middle-overs so I can’t and won’t say that I will only bowl with the new ball because I returned to this team to do whatever I’m asked,” said Wasim.

This adaptability, he believes, is crucial for the team’s success, especially in a challenging series against England.

Batting Flexibility

Wasim also addressed his role as a batsman, stating that he is comfortable batting in any position except the opening or top three slots. His primary focus is on contributing to the team’s success rather than pursuing personal milestones.

“About batting, except opening and top-three, play me at whatever position I will be comfortable. The most important thing is that whatever I perform, should benefit the team as I’ve no individual target for the World Cup. Whether it’s a big or small performance, it should lead Pakistan to victory.”

Importance of Role Clarity

The all-rounder stressed that clarity in roles is vital for any team to perform well in a major event like the T20 World Cup. This clarity allows players to focus on their tasks and contribute effectively to the team’s objectives.

Following their four-match series against England, the Men in Green will kick off their World Cup campaign on June 6 at the Grand Prairie Stadium against the hosts, the USA. Imad Wasim’s versatile approach and readiness to adapt to any situation will be crucial for Pakistan as they aim for glory in the T20 World Cup.
